NEMERGUT, Frederick J. of Reading, MA passed away on January 8, 2017 at the age of 73. Beloved husband of Joy (Eaton) Nemergut. Loving father of Kara Nemergut and her husband Keith Ward of East Boston, and Laura Nemergut and her significant other Jeffrey Boudreau of Reading. Dear brother of John of The Villages, FL; Tonya (Nemergut) Montague of Shelton, CT; William of Cape Coral, FL; the late Donald of Derby, CT; and the late Robert of Marlborough, CT. Brother-in-law of Richard and Cheryl (Eaton) Fortier of New Gloucester, ME. Frederick is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends throughout Massachusetts and the world.

Fred was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late John and Elinor (Kekacs) Nemergut. After high school, Fred enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Turkey. When his stint in the military was complete, Fred attended the University of Connecticut, where he would meet Joy, his wife of the past 43 years. At UConn, he earned his B.S. and M.S. in Economics and completed the coursework for his Ph.D.

During his long career, Fred served on the Energy Program Staff of the New England Regional Commission, as Director of Policy and Planning for the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy Resources, and Vice President of J. Makowski Associates. He was also one of the five founding members of Reed Consulting Group, where he served as Vice President until it was acquired by Navigant Consulting in 1998. He remained at Navigant as Director until his retirement. Fred was actively involved in many professional organizations in the energy sector, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Maple Leaf Foundation. He was also one of the founders and past President of the New England Canada Business Council.

He was known for his love of travel and golf, and always took the opportunity to meet new people. Although he did not take his first flight until he enrolled in the Air Force, Fred visited over 100 countries all over the globe. An avid golfer his entire life, he won many tournaments, including the President's Cup at the Meadow Brook Golf Club in 2007.
