George P Getov

March 1, 1942 ~ October 12, 2016 (age 74) 74 Years Old

GETOV, George P. of North Reading, 74 years of age, originally from Bulgaria, passed away on October 12th, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.  Son of Petko and Marija Getov of Bulgaria. Beloved husband of almost forty-six years to Blagica (Bege) Getov.  Devoted father of Petko Getov, North Reading and Marija (Getova) DeFabritiis and her husband, Vincent DeFabritiis Jr. of Waltham. Cherished Grandfather of Victoria, Alexandra and Gabriella. Dear brother of Nedelcho and Minka of Bulgaria. Also survived by many fond nephews, nieces and extended family. George was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria on March 1st, 1942.  He met his beloved wife in Bulgaria and declared it was ‘love at first sight’. After only two days, George asked Bege to marry him.  They married and lived in Macedonia for a little over a year and welcomed their daughter, Marija, named after George’s mother.

Due to George’s entrepreneurial nature and the political climate in Macedonia and Bulgaria, George was forced to escape to Italy.  After many twists and turns in his journey, he immigrated to the United States and found his home in Massachusetts.  A few years later, Bege and Marija, joined him.  They were blessed with a son, which they named after George’s father, Petko.  George was an entrepreneur at heart and tried many ventures during his life.  He was the proud owner of Getov Machine, Inc. a precision machine shop in Burlington and Wilmington. As an immigrant, he tried to assist other new immigrants by offering them employment at his shop.  After retiring to Naples, Florida, George suffered the beginning of his many medical issues.  George and Bege moved back to Massachusetts in order to get the best medical care for him.  The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of Massachusetts General Hospital for their wonderful dedication and care of George for the past twelve years.  Without their perseverance and skill, George would have left us many years ago.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to a charity of your choosing. Family and friends will honor George’s life by gathering in the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St. (corner of Park St. and Rte. 28) North Reading, on Saturday, Nov. 5th, 2016 at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
