Kenneth Caruso passed away peacefully on June 6, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer.  A man of simple pleasures, he loved poker, chess, the stock market, and especially fishing. 

Kenny was born and raised in Somerville, Massachusetts to Salvatore and Annie Caruso of Ten Hills Road. Although he was mostly a good student, Kenny admitted he never tried very hard, and sometimes his grades showed it.

As a child he’d walk with his two best friends Jerry and Mike to Winter Hill and back again. They had no idea the neighborhood would be made famous one day by a Johnny Depp movie named “Black Mass,” and be partially filmed at the home of Kenny’s cousins, the DiLandos in Cambridge.

Summer was spent at the family-built cottage in Wareham, Massachusetts where the Caruso, Leccesse, DeSantis, and Ferrante cousins were frequent visitors  

Kenneth raised two children, Michelle and Kenneth, with his former wife Maria. He taught them to drive on the streets of Nashua, NH, and tried to teach them calculus. He enjoyed bringing his son to baseball practice and games. When his daughter asked him for advice on her wedding day, he shrugged, and said "its all trial and error."

Kenny spent time a lot of time on the water, often with his brother Richie, fishing in Buzzards Bay.  His sister Carol hosted many holiday dinners after their mother died. And in his last year, Kenny enjoyed heading to the casino and going out for oysters with his friend from high school, Ina.  Summer drives to York Beach, Maine to visit cousins Nancy, Teresa, and Mary, were frequent. New Year's Eve at cousin Cosie's was always a fun time.

As is typical of Italian Americans, he had a large extended family, and enjoyed the once-a-month cousins dinners that required seating for 20 people, now 19.

He never dressed fancy, showing up for his niece’s wedding in a polo shirt, much to his family’s chagrin. “It’s hot out,” he said.

Kenny had a master’s degree in electrical engineering and worked in the defense industry his entire career. He moved his family to Nashua, NH in 1980 to take a job at Sanders, which would later be bought by Lockheed Martin. When Netflix released Narcos, he was proud to say he worked on the technology that allowed the aerial surveillance of the drug runners in Colombia. He also worked on the “Star Wars” program initiated under President Ronald Regan.  He was proud of that too, though he couldn’t talk about it much at the time due to government secrecy requirements.

Kenny is survived by his daughter Michelle Caruso-Cabrera and her husband Stephen Dizard of New York City, and his son Kenneth II and his wife Moriah of  Seattle; his sister Carol Ann Caruso and her husband Ken McHowell of Woburn and brother Richard Caruso and his wife Carolyn of Andover. Kenneth is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral from the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St. (corner of Park St. and Rte. 28), North Reading, at Reading line on Tuesday, June 13^th at 9:30am. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Theresa's Church, 63 Winter St. (Rte. 62), North Reading at 10:30am. Relatives and friends may visit in the funeral home on Monday from 4-8pm. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
