Peter P. Carcia

Peter P. Carcia, beloved husband of Joan (Galante) Carcia, passed away on Friday, March 8th, 2024. Born in Boston’s North End, he was the loving son of the late Anthony and Frances (Parisi) Carcia. He is the devoted father of Kathy Gibson and her husband Dobby, Anthony Carcia and his wife Shannon Brazil, Karen Carcia and her husband Jamie D’Agostino. Cherished grandfather of Jamie, Scarlett, Zoe, Teo and Desmond. Beloved brother of Sarah Ahern and her late husband Ken, brother-in-law of Maria Burke and her late-husband Bob, and Paul Galante and his wife Louise. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Peter grew up in the North End where he spent many fond days playing stick ball in the streets and playing on the rooftop of his apartment building. He was part of a close-knit immigrant community and loving family. He was a graduate of Charlestown High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Lowell Technological Institute and his Master’s Degree from Northeastern University.

He met his wife Joan at the Stoneham Bowling Alley. They married in 1965 and raised their family in Reading. They loved spending time in Boston, enjoying music at Passim’s, and taking in plays at Huntington Theatre. Peter was an avid runner and bike rider. He loved spending time with his family and taking his children to museums, puppet shows, and other events, which all fostered a family-wide, life-long love of the arts.

Peter was a Senior Engineering Fellow and Divisional Vice President at Polaroid. He was dedicated to the people he worked with and was known for his team-building skills. He brought a creative approach to this work, inspiring his team to be the best. He enjoyed technical problem-solving, including his early important work on the SX-70 camera. His professional and personal life was committed to preserving and celebrating life’s important moments and memories.

In retirement, Peter became a talented painter, deepening his art practice by taking classes and working happily alongside Joan in her pottery studio. Along with his dear friend Tom Mottl, he was one of the founders of Reading Neighbors Network, an organization for Reading seniors. He also was an award-winning storyteller, both performing and teaching, mainly focusing on stories about growing up in the North End.

Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park Street, North Reading (at the corner of Park Street and Route 28/Main Street, right over the Reading line) on March 23rd from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Following the visitation, a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street, Reading.

Immediately following the Mass, all are invited to continue in celebration at the St. Athanasius Parish Center.
