Mary G. Santoro passed away peacefully on December 28, 2018 at Elmcroft of State College in the presence of her son and daughter-in law, Robert and Phyllis Santoro. Mary was born on February 21, 1916 in Boston MA to Ludovico and Maria (Policielli) Liberatore. She had two brothers, Pompeo and Louis, deceased. She married Arthur J. Santoro on November 28, 1943. After World War II, they bought a house in Somerville MA where they raised their two sons. Arthur Santoro died of a heart attack on August 8, 1996.. Mary is survived by her sons Robert J. Santoro and his wife Phyllis (McLellan) of State College, PA and William A. Santoro who lives in Somerville MA. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Andrea Del Vecchio and Elizabeth Vaughan as well as five great grandchildren, Anna, Kai, Tessa, Adele and Owen. Mary is also survived by her sister-in-law, Dora Young and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a homemaker until her sons were grown when she went to work for Ginsburg Brothers in Somerville where she worked until her retirement. She moved to State College in 2000, four years after her husband’s death to live with Bob and Phyllis. She lived with them until 2010 when it became necessary, for health reasons, to move to Elmcroft, an assisted living facility only a mile from Bob and Phyllis. She was loved by staff and residents alike and will be fondly remembered there for her love of romance novels and classic movies (which she watched daily).
Funeral from the Cota Funeral Home on Saturday, Jan. 5th at 9:30am. Funeral Mass in St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St. (Rte. 62), North Reading at 10:30am. Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8pm. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown.
