Annemarie (McCarthy) O'Brien

Annemarie O'Brien, beloved daughter of Doris Gerry McCarthy and the late Charles McCarthy, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

First and foremost, Annemarie was devoted to family and cherished her two children and four grandchildren. She was a truly warm, kind and selfless person who put the needs of others before her own. In her youth, Annemarie loved traveling on cross country trips with family. She loved the mountains, and her adventurous spirit led her to live and work in Jackson Hole, WY and Yellowstone National Park for a time. She was a long-time resident of Salem, MA and embraced the true Spirit of Halloween year-round. Annemarie loved camping at the Covered Bridge Campground in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. She was a gifted storyteller with a colorful imagination and a quick wit. One of her favorite things was telling ghostly tales around a campfire crowded with family...with most of those nights ending in hilarious terror for her nieces & nephews and even some of her adult siblings. Annemarie could always be counted on for a good scare and she was loved for it. Another favorite was taking her kids & grandkids (and anyone else who could fit in her minivan) on impromptu "mystery rides" throughout Mass & NH. She loved to just jump in the car and go wherever the road took her that day. She loved all holiday gatherings with her large family and was the main instigator in the yearly Christmas wrapping paper wars. Annemarie was a much-loved Mom, Mammy, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, Auntie and more. She has left a huge void in her family and will be forever missed. We will hold on to the countless wonderful, hilarious, and even the all-in-fun terrifying memories she has left us with. Until we meet again, run free in fields of gold, Wild Mountain Woman.

Anne Marie is the devoted mother of Patrick O’Brien of NH and Maureen O’Brien of Danvers.  Cherished grandmother of Mariah O’Brien, Michael Churchill, Carol Ann O’Brien and Patrick O’Brien, Jr. Loving sister of Charles McCarthy and his wife Evelyn of Beverly, Richard McCarthy and his wife Virginia of Lynn, Kathleen McCarthy of Florida, Lorraine McLaughlin and her husband Michael of Winthrop, Robert McCarthy and his wife Diane of Haverhill and Deborah DelGreco and her husband Charles of Reading.

Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading, on Wednesday, August 2nd, 2023 from 4 to 7pm.  Immediately following the visiting hours, a service to celebrate Annemarie will be held at 7pm.
