Downey, Carol Ann (Dillon), aged 81, formally of Melrose, MA, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2021. Carol was born on April 8, 1940, in Lynn MA. She was the daughter of the late Martin Dillon and Louise (Guilford) Dillon.
Carol is survived by her three daughters; Mary Ellen and her husband Terrance of Wilmington, Jennifer and her husband Alan of Marblehead and Elizabeth of Arlington and by her brother David Dillon and his wife Kathleen of Windham, NH. Carol was also the loving grandmother of Olivia, Molly, Summer, Jack and Henry and a devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews. Carol was predeceased by her former husband Gerald Downey.
Carol was born and brought up in Lynn and she was a proud graduate of Lynn English High School and Merrimack College. Her career path took her to a number of organizations over the years including Blue Cross Blue Shield, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts as well as over twenty years as a Paralegal and legal secretary at Lynch Brewer Hoffman and Fink.
Carol had a wonderful sense of humor and was generous in nature and spirit. She had many close friends and over her lifetime, she remained committed to supporting a variety of community-based organizations providing care to individuals with disabilities as well as to local animal welfare charities.
Carol spent the final years of her life at Academy Manor in Andover. An avid reader, Carol was often found sipping her coffee and reading the Boston Globe.
The family is grateful for the care and kindness provided to Carol by the staff at Academy Manor and Compassionate Care hospice.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family in the Funeral Home on Thursday, July 22nd from 4-7pm. Funeral from the Funeral Home on Friday, July 23rd at 9:30am. Funeral Mass in St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 126 Middlesex Ave, Wilmington at 10:30am. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
