Emerson Tucker Obituary

Emerson W. Tucker – “Remembered” Death Notice for Boston Globe Sunday Jan 2, 2022 and Monday Jan 3, 2022

Age 93, passed away peacefully at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA December 23, 2021 following a long illness.  Emerson was born September 11, 1928 in Chelsea, MA to William and Theresa (Pond) Tucker.  He and his wife of 72 years, Dorothy (Parsons) began their marriage in Everett, Ma were they were high school sweethearts.  They lived in Hendersonville, NC, prior to 40 years in Reading, MA.  The last 18 years were spent enjoying retirement at Brooksby Village.  Throughout their lives they traveled the world including China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Israel and Europe.  For many years, winter months were spent in Punta Gorda, FL.

Emerson worked for General Electric beginning in 1948 and held various roles in manufacturing planning, process and advanced manufacturing engineering, and aircraft engine project management including the T700 and F404 aircraft engine programs.  He took great pride in solving manufacturing problems and was always eager to learn more, attending MIT’s Lowell Institute and Northeastern University’s Lincoln Institute at night while working days.

Emerson deeply believed in putting his Christian beliefs into action.  He gave generously to mission and education programs at the churches he attended, taught adult and children Sunday school classes, served as a lay leader, sang in choirs, and traveled to Chile to build a school well.  Christmas was a special season for playing carols with his trumpet for the Salvation Army Charity Kettle in Danvers and for collecting items for Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Boxes for children.

In addition to his beloved wife Dorothy, he leaves behind daughters Cheryl (Wakefield, MA), Joyce White and husband Jonathan (Orleans, MA), Donna Ramer and husband Rick (BelAir, MD) and son David Tucker and wife Denise (Marietta, GA).  He was particularly devoted to Cheryl who has Down’s Syndrome, establishing the first special needs class in Hendersonville, NC and taking her to weekly square dancing, bowling, swimming, and Special Olympic events throughout her life.  He was adored by five grandchildren and a great grandson.  Many happy times were spent at family holidays and vacations.
