Guy G. Messier, of Deland, Florida and formerly of North Reading, MA, beloved husband of Diane (Barbieri) Messier, passed away peacefully on December 11th, 2023, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 88. Born in Worcester, MA, he is the loving son of the late Alfred and Imelda (Brodeur) Messier.
Guy grew up in Worcester and West Boylston, MA. He attended and graduated from St. John’s High School in Worcester, and then graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston having served as his class president in his senior year of college. Guy earned a degree in Building Construction Technology from Wentworth. A proud veteran, Guy served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957. Guy met the love of his life, Diane, in 1953 and they married on June 2nd, 1956. Together, they settled in North Reading to raise their two boys, Darryl and Michael.
Guy worked as a partner at Claude Miquelle Associates, a leading residential architectural firm in Melrose, MA for 27 years before starting his own business, Guy Messier Residential Design, in North Reading. He worked as a residential designer for many years until his retirement in 2017. The houses he designed over the years can be found in many towns throughout New England. He was the last of a breed of architects that still completed all his designs by hand without the use of a computer, which many builders and homeowners appreciated. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing and duck hunting with his close friends and family. Guy was a member of the Stoneham Knights of Columbus and was a former Grand Knight. He and his wife Diane travelled all around the world, which included 24 cruises, the last of which was in March of 2023. Guy was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish and was a long-time lector for weekly mass.
Guy lived life to its fullest, always ready for adventure and travel. He was loving, caring, and full of laughter and joy. He enjoyed speaking and engaging with different people wherever he was and was quick to make those around him feel at ease. He was well-loved and a pleasure to be around. You could often find Guy easily in a crowd by listening for his infectious laugh. His greatest joy came from being with his family and his close friends. Guy made many wonderful memories and will be dearly missed by all.
In addition to being the loving husband of Diane, he is the devoted father of Darryl Messier and his wife Debra of North Andover and Michael Messier and his wife Anne Marie of Chelmsford. Cherished grandfather of Ryan Messier and his wife Sara, Darryl Messier, Jr. and his significant other, Jackie Cranfill, Nicholas Messier and his wife Kellee, and Julia Stemple and her husband Derek. Great grandfather of Benjamin Messier and Theodore Messier. Beloved brother of the late Richard Messier and the late Barbara L’Heureux. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
