John G. Martorella

John G. Martorella, adored father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on March 20, 2020 at his home in North Reading. 

John was born on October 20, 1941 to the late Concetta and Assunto Martorella in Somerville, MA where he was raised amongst his 5 siblings; Jemma, Carmen, Gaetano, Robert and Theresa, his maternal grandparents and his Uncle Joe.  He graduated from his beloved alma mater Somerville High School in 1960 where he was an accomplished sprinter on the track team.  Following his graduation, he worked at Trade Composition as an apprentice printer and eventually advanced to become a type set printer.  He worked hard in that role to provide a full and joyful life for his family until he retired from the print shop in Cambridge City Hall in 2007. 

John moved from Somerville to Reading, MA in 1994 and resided there until 2018 when he moved to a retirement community in North Reading. 

 Devoted to him were his children whom he adored; Darlene Brady of Stoneham, MA, Robin Reeves and her husband Michael of Reading, MA and Jon Martorella and his wife Samantha of Middleton, MA.  Time spent with family brought him the most comfort and happiness.  He leaves his five grandchildren who loved him dearly and were his pride and joy; Brittany, Michaela, Michael and Victoria Reeves and Melissa Brady.  He was an integral part of their lives and enjoyed celebrating their academic and athletic achievements over the years. He also leaves behind siblings, cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends.   A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday August 7th at 10:30am at Saint Athanasius Church in Reading.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Everett.   In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Somerville High School Scholarship Foundation P.O.
