Joseph Alongi, Jr. of Stoneham, beloved husband of the late Grace (Catino) Alongi, passed away on Monday, December 26th, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, he is the beloved son of the late Joseph and Mary (Mercurio) Alongi.
Joseph spent his early years in the North End of Boston and then grew up in South Medford. Joseph served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a signalman in the South Pacific on board the Mount McKinley. He married the love of his life Grace and they settled in Stoneham and raised their children. Joseph worked for many years at Spaulding Graphic Microfilm until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and golfed until he was 93 years old. Joseph belonged to the Bear Hill Country Club and was the past president of the Bear Hill Associates.
Joseph’s greatest joy came from his family. He was dedicated to his children and grandchildren. Joseph was always present in their lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Devoted father of Janice Zackular and her husband Paul of North Reading and Diane Miscowski and her husband Stephen of North Reading. Cherished grandfather of Christine Nazarro and her husband Paul, Joseph Zackular and his wife Nichole, Stephen Miscowski and his wife Effie and Lynne Mahoney and her husband Ryan. Great grandfather of Gianna, Louis, Siena, Charlotte, Isabella, Cassandra, Sophia, Elliana and one great grandchild on the way. Loving brother of the late Corrine DeCicco, Robert Alongi, Norma Monaco and Frank Alongi, along with many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading (Corner of Park St. and Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Thursday, December 29th, 2022 from 9 to 10:30am. Following the visitation, a funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St., North Reading at 11:00am.
