Kevin (D.) Smith

Kevin D. Smith, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at the age of 70.  Born in Somerville, he is the loving son of the late Russell and Catherine (Fothergill) Smith.

Kevin grew up in Somerville and Arlington and was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School.  For the past 20 years, Kevin has been a North Reading resident.  For many years, Kevin worked for the United States Postal Service out of Billerica.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a parishioner at St. Theresa’s Church and an avid sports fan.  Kevin’s greatest joy came from being with his grandchildren.  He never missed an opportunity to watch their games or to make many fond memories with them.  He will be deeply missed by his loving family.

Kevin is the devoted father of Erin Thomassen and her husband John Martin of Tewksbury and the late Kevin Smith, Jr.  Cherished grandfather of Kayleigh and Jack Martin.  Beloved brother of William Smith and his wife Cathy of FL, Paul Smith and his wife Dee of Brewster, Eugene Smith, Robert Smith and his wife Jane of Sterling and Brian Smith and his wife Sue of Litchfield, NH.  Loving father-in-law of Erin Smith of Salem and uncle to many loving nieces and nephews.  

A funeral service will be held from the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St., North Reading (Corner of Park St. and Rt. 28 at the Reading Line) on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass Celebrating Kevin at St. Theresa’s Church, 63 Winter St., North Reading at 10:30am.  Interement to follow in Riverside Cemetery, North Reading.

Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the Cota Funeral Home on Friday, July 28th, 2023 from 4 to 7pm.
