Louise Spracklin Obituary

Louise Spracklin, of Peabody and formerly of Reading, beloved wife of the late Fred C. Spracklin, passed away on Friday, April 1st, 2022 at the age of 89. Born in Everett, she is the loving daughter of the late John and Jenny (Smith) Kozel.

Louise grew up in Malden and Chelsea and was a graduate of Malden High School. She attended Salem State College, earning both a Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Teaching and Education. Louise later returned to school at Boston College, receiving a Master’s Degree in Theology. Well rounded educationally, she was an elementary school teacher for the Reading School System for many years and then transitioning to adult religious education. Louise was devoted to her faith and was an active parishioner at Saint Agnes Church in Reading and was also a Eucharistic Minister.

Another passion of hers was music. Louise was an accomplished violinist and was a member of the Reading Symphony Orchestra. She was also an animal lover, avid reader and a lifelong student. Louise and her husband Fred were devoted to one another. They traveled all over the world, including Jerusalem, Israel, Ireland, Japan, Italy and Russia. During Fred’s later years, it was Louise’s diligent compassion and steadfast care that kept him with her for the remaining years of his life. When he passed away in 2009, she founded a grief support group at Mass General Hospital in Boston as well as giving communion to those who needed it. Louise’s greatest joy came from being with her family. She was never shy to share her opinion and her many life stories. Louise will be deeply missed by her loving family and her many dear friends.
