Michael Santarpio Obituary

Santarpio, Michael A., 65, passed peacefully in his Reading home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was raised in Somerville and Burlington. As an adult he settled in and raised his family as the unofficial Mayor of Canterbury Drive in Reading. He was known to many as Uncle Mikey, Big Mike, Pope Mike, Uncle Doris and most recently became known as Nono to his cherished granddaughter. As “the boss” of Santarpio’s Catering he was well-loved by his regular customers on his routes as well as the neighborhood kids, who he would happily treat to candy and snacks. Mike was truly one of a kind with a larger than life personality, contagious laugh, devilish grin and who loved making people laugh. He enjoyed flexing his cooking skills at cookouts and spending time with his family. Mike was also a die-hard Patriots fan and has been a season ticket holder for over forty years.

Michael was predeceased by his father Freddie “Nono” Santarpio and Sister Cheryl Johnson (Santarpio). He will be warmly remembered by his mother, Eleanor “Ellie” Santarpio, his beloved wife of 34 years, Paula “Boo” Santarpio and her mother, Julia “Yia-Yia” Anganes, his daughter Stephanie “Wabb” Santarpio and her fiancé Pat “Pasquale” McDonagh of Dorchester, son Chris “the boy” Santarpio and his wife Amanda “Pand” of Malden and his precious granddaughter Callie Rose Santarpio. He is also survived by his brothers Fred Santarpio and his wife Maryellen, Gary Santarpio and his wife Deb and Rick Santarpio and his wife Lesley. Michael will also be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
