Richard Jones Obituary

Richard Allen Jones,84, of Lynnfield MA,fought a hard battle with COPD/Emphysema,Vasculitis and Colitis for 20 years before passing away at home on      December 29, 2021 While being lovingly cared for by his wife of 53 years Maureen and his daughter Janeen.

Richard was the 4th child of Wallace and Evelyn Jones of Somerville MA born at the end of the Great Depression on March 12,1937. He left school in the 9th grade and shortly after began doing car and engine repairs and auto body work circa 1950 for the Army National Guard ,Allen Chevrolet in Dedham MA  and then his own body shop. It was during this time his passion for working w his hands grew and developed. Ritchie or Dick,as he was known to many, was also known to be able to fix, build, repair and construct anything anyone needed.

Richard transitioned into construction work circa 1970 and began the first of his three businesses DJ Remodeling Inc. His business Custom Craft Inc followed thereafter about 1980. In the mid 1990’s when his lungs began to fail and he could no longer do the physical work required that he loved doing, He shifted gears and immersed himself in the process of learning computers. With much dedication and time Ritchie became a skilled architect versed in software programs such as Auto Cad and Chief Architect and then created his third business Design Systems.        .

Richard Jones taught himself how to do most all the things he enjoyed doing in his life such as auto repair, wood working, building and fixing things, playing guitar, singing, preserving old videos and learning how to use computers and new technology. He will best be known and remembered for his natural abilities and talents, his work ethic, his steadfast dedication and drive to want to learn all he could about the  things he loved doing….and most of all….his love of Dunkin’s jelly donuts with his coffee. His legacy will live on in the hundreds of meticulous builds and remodels he did in homes, buildings, barns and offices throughout his lifetime…and also in our only cherished audio recording of him singing and playing guitar w his band in his infamous backyard built Somerville ‘Garage’ nightclub.

Richard/Ritchie/Dick Jones was a son, brother, husband, father, friend and hard working good man. For his daughter Janeen,he was everything…..her mentor, her hero….her Dad.

He was so very loved and will be deeply missed.

Richard Jones is survived by his wife Maureen E Jones, daughter Janeen M Jones, son Derek A Jones, twin granddaughters Aysha and Deeyana Jones, daughter Kathleen Hider and husband Kurt, grandson Kevin Hider and family, granddaughter Kristine Halley and family, sister Marilyn Grealish and husband Jack and family, and many other family members and friends.
