Richie Acquaviva Obituary

Richard “Richie” E. Acquaviva, beloved husband of the late Judith Zarella, passed away on Tuesday, April 9th, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Lynn, he is the loving son of the late Frank P. and Mary (DesLoges) Acquaviva.  Richie grew up in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School class of 1951.  During his years in high school, Richie was a talented hockey player; being the team’s star goalie.  As a veteran of the United States Army, Richie served during the Korean War and received the following medals; National Defense Service and Good Conduct.

Beginning in 1955, Richie began his working career as a maintenance mechanic working for the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority until 2000 when he retired. In 1990, Richie rescued a coworker whom had fallen into raw sewerage and would have drowned. He received an award of Valor for his heroism. Richie had a passion for craftmanship and was a gifted woodworker and artist. He enjoyed sketching, drawing painting and discussing politics. Richie also had an infinity for singing and listening to great old music like Al Martino. He was a simple man that could often be found watching the wildlife in his back yard.  He is now reunited with his beloved wife Judy and will be missed by his family and friends.

Richie was a loving father who leaves behind his daughter Jami Zarella and her wife Danielle DeBlois and son John Zarella. Beloved brother of the late Joseph Acquaviva and his late wife Marilyn and the late Julia Acquaviva. Loving nephew of the late Roland DiFillipo and his wife Vera (DesLoges) DiFillipo and cousin to Roland DiFillipo and his husband Jeffery Siegel.  Family and friends are cordially invited to celebrate Richie at a Graveside Service at Charles Lawn Cemetery, Charles St., Reading on Friday, April 19th at 12:00pm.
